The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), filed a lawsuit against Dr. Scott Talbott, co-founder of Amare Global, in 2004 for making unsubstantiated product statements and using misleading infomercials to pitch dietary products (CortiSlim and CortiStress), in his former company Window Rock Enterprises, Inc.
FTC alleges that Window Rock Enterprises misrepresented CortiSlim’s ability to induce rapid, significant, lasting weight loss in all users. Also, CortiStres’ ability to reduce the risk or prevent osteoporosis and other diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, heart disease, and obesity. These claims were exaggerated, and not supported by evidence. Dr. Shawn Talbott, along with the two other defendants, was ordered to pay $4.5million to the Federal Trade Commission in 2005 in order to dismiss the FTC lawsuit charges.
